TW Tennis junior classes follow the LTA guidelines for coaching young players. Our coaching team aims to provide a safe, fun filled environement for learning, playing and developing tennis skills in a local community location.
TW Tennis has a fantastic junior tennis program that is growing all the time and offers options for players of all standards of play. Our classes start from a very early age with our TW Tennis Tots classes (ages 3-4yrs) and progress to teenage classes (ages 11-16yrs) and performance squads for higher standard players. Our program is progressive, provides a safe and happy environment for children, and aims to teach young players the right skills and habits on court to enjoy the game and learn to play with confidence on the tennis court. LTA YOUTH COURSES
Aimed at introducing tennis to very young players. This class gets players to learn how to hold and use a racket, catch and throw and move around the tennis court safely.
Once players have more confidence and co-ordination, they can start playing over a net and developing specific tennis skills such as forehands and backhands
The orange ball class still develops key skills but offers players a chance to play with more space on the court and learn to play with some basic strategy and decision making during the class
Players at green level play in a full court and start to develop more powerful hitting skills and use of space to play tennis. The class also introduces match play strategy and scoring.
As well as choosing a class to play with the right equipment, TW tennis junior players learn to play on specific court sizes to help build confidence, skills and tactical understanding.
Our youngest players play Red Ball tennis which is played in a smaller space across a normal tennis court. The court size then gets bigger as players do! Its an easy system to follow and allows parents and players to understand how to follow a pathway to improving and enjoying their tennis.
Players who progress past our LTA Youth classes are ready for our TW tennis teens classes. These classes use traditional equipment and court spaces to help players develop their tennis skills and understanding of the game. The classes have 3 levels of play from new players who are late starters, to more advanced players and competitive squad players. The classes are run to be inspiring to the players and many are now also helping with coaching roles and completing their DofE awards as part of the program.
Aimed at players who are local residents and playing in local to county level competitions, the TW Tennis squad and advanced classes offer high level training with Director of Tennis, Steve Cockell. In order to take part in this program, all players must be invited to join and be prepared to train on a regular basis throughout the year. As a result of selection, players can access training groups, strength and conditioning training and match play planning and advice. The program is aimed at helping junior players reach their potential and enjoy the tougher challenges of tennis tournaments and match play.
If you are looking to use one of our venues for your performance training, TW tennis can help arrange both squad groups and private lessons for your child. We have classes for 9&U, 11&U and also 14&U as well as box leagues and events on site at our venues. The coaching is designed by Steve Cockell who has over 25years of experience in performance tennis and played nationally and in the US as a scholar.
